The Food and Drug Administration has released a report this week, officially approving marketing of an e-cigarette for the first time as “appropriate for the protection of public health.”.
This comes shortly after their nationwide flavour ban, banning most e-cigarette flavours in pre-filled pod kits apart from tobacco and menthol.
The ‘Vuse Solo’ pre-filled pod kit and two of it’s replacement pods have received the grant. Mitch Zeller, J.D., director of the FDA’s Center for Tobacco Products, said that..
“..The manufacturer’s data demonstrates its tobacco-flavored products could benefit addicted adult smokers who switch to these products – either completely or with a significant reduction in cigarette consumption – by reducing their exposure to harmful chemicals,”
This is a great step forward for the industry, alongside the UK’s NHS possibly providing vaping products as a prescription, it’s clear that vaping is becoming increasingly accepted as an effective way of stopping smoking.
With over 78,000 people a year in the UK dying from smoking related illnesses, and 480,000 people per year in the US, steps like this are vital in reducing these numbers.
